Frustration

August 12, 2013

For those of you who had planned to see my new phone case yesterday, I can only say I’m sorry.  I couldn’t do anything right.  The case wasn’t right so I took it apart and started again.

I couldn’t knit either.   For some reason, I kept decreasing for the instep until I had ten too few stitches on my needles.  I had to rip out twenty rows and lost two hours worth.

August 2, 2013

P1050556

The pattern is in Summer 2013 of Sockupied.  You will note that there is very little yarn left.   I had made a premmie cap.  There was only 75 grams left.  Out of curiosity, I weighed another skein of Tofutsies that was supposedly full.   It only weighed 95 grams.  A little food for thought.

So. Can you see the mistake?  It’s on the leg of the left sock.  It comes from knitting late at night when I would normally be sleeping.

I’ve already started another pair of socks.  I thought about going back to the anniversary shawl, but it seems I’m still in sock mode.  I found a nice pattern from Socks That Rock and the yarn is Sockcotta in shades of tan.  Yes.  Tan.  It happens.

This is going to be my next purse.  And, of course, I had to make a matching change purse.  Is that too cute?  Sometimes I make myself sick.

What to Do Next

July 28, 2013

I finished my monthly mini hangy thingy today.

P1050551

Usually, I make two cat squares.

P1050385

The trouble is —– I really want to make another Tulip Purse.  I bought laminated fabric in three different designs with lining fabric that “kind of” goes with it.  I couldn’t make up my mind so I bought all three and now, I can’t decide which one to make first.

P1050549

But, you know.  There’s that little change purse kit I bought.

P1050520

I think I’ll go knit.

Second Decent Day

July 26, 2013

Last night we slept with the windows open.  It’s so great to have the air conditioning off and real air flowing through the house.   Yesterday, it was raining in the morning, but today we were able to walk down to the pier over the river.  It’s been a while.  It’s hard to do anything outside when the air reminds me of warm dog breath.  You big dog owners what I mean.  I’ve also managed to do some weeding.  Yeah.  I really should buy some more flowers.

P1050545

Another sock.  This time I used Tofutsies and a Sockupied pattern.  The skein wasn’t full, but I have three partial skeins that co-ordinate so I figured I could make one for each foot.  No . I don’t have three feet.  Thank you very much.  I have enough trouble with the two that I have.  Hmm.  Would they charge me more for a pedicure if I had three feet?  Anyway, one sock weighed 36 grams and I have 38 grams leftover.  Another Yeah.  A good digital scale is a godsend when you throw stuff together the way that I do.

A Little Quilt

July 19, 2013

P1050514

This is not the quilt.  These are my wavy socks.  You can see the purple peeking out on this picture.  If you want the pattern, it’s on the right under Wavy Panda Silk Socks.  I haven’t put it on Ravelry yet, so you’ll have a first.

P1050506

Now, this is a quilt.  It still needs a border.  It needs to be big enough to cover  an over-stuffed chair.  Flo likes to lay on the top of the back and everyone likes the cushion.  Since it’s off white, it needs to be covered.  The chair came with the house.  It will probably be replaced when we expand the living room.  Or not.  We do have a dog chair.  Why not have a cat chair?

No one wants to sit here anyway. It's got about seven years of Gus hair on it.

At Least the Rain has Stopped

July 14, 2013

The temperature isn’t that bad, but it’s very humid.
P1050478  Flo doesn’t mind.  She still likes to work on her tan.  She’s just a summertime cat.

I finished writing my sock pattern.  I mailed it over, but it hasn’t arrived yet.  The battery was very low and my laptop is ancient.

Twenty-eight years ago today, I was trying to take a nap in the back yard while Sweetums was painting our bedroom ceiling.  I hadn’t slept well the night before due to the heat and an enormous belly.  That night, my water broke while I was taking a bath–an interesting sight.  Later, I went downstairs and cleaned the kitchen.  Around 2Am, the pains started.  I called Dr T and woke Sweetums and told Jenn.  Sweetums didn’t believe me.  I still had ten days to go.  Idiot.  It was time to go. That’s all there was to it.  Jenn showed up about 15 minutes after we arrived.  It was good to have them both there.  My son showed up around 5:30AM.  Life is good.  Needless to say, it was not for several days until I got any sleep.

Not Another Pair of Socks

July 9, 2013

What can I say?  I’m in sock mode.  But it’s a good thing.  It’s summer after all.  No one wants a big honking sweater in their lap when it’s hot.  I really like these.  The pattern is mine.  I have been trying to write it down as I’m knitting.  I found a note pad app for my Kindle Fire.  My son gave it to me for Christmas.  I love to read and all the extras make it so useful.  I take it almost everywhere with me.  It fits into most of my purses.  What more do I need?

P1050497  I realize that the purple stripes are hard to see.  I’ll try to take a better picture.  The heel looks great.  I did a little checkerboard on the bottom.  The pattern will be up as soon as I fine tune it.

Got Up Early

June 28, 2013

The long-awaited range hood was to be installed. But he called. He won’t be able to make it until next Tuesday. Argh! All that rearranging for nothing. I even cleaned the toilet. I’ve been grumpy all week. It’s to be expected.

When I was in Bethany, I bought two skeins of  Bombay by Katia.  I’ve been wanting to make my Girlie Summer Socks again.  The pair I have have been through the washer and dryer and still look and feel great.  I was very happy to find two colorways that I liked.

P1050480  Look!  They match!  And I wasn’t even trying.  I knit the Eye of Partridge heel, other wise it’s the same pattern.

P1050487  With the second pair, I went with a ruffle.  I got out Lucy Neatby’s little sock book, Cool Socks, Warm Feet, and found just what I wanted.  Using a little math, I figured I needed to cast on two and one half times as many stitches.  I won’t tell you the rest.  That would be unfair to Lucy.  And I really like her.

P1050488  Here’s a close up.  I used a sixteen inch circular needle to start.  Then, on the decrease round I switched to double points.

I started another pair last night using the Panda Silk I bought at MD Sheep and Wool.  I am trying a new design of my own.  If I am happy with them, I’ll have a new pattern for you to try.

Girlie Socks

June 21, 2013

The other week, I went shopping with knitting friends.  In Berlin, I bought some more Taiyo sock yarn.

P1050469

I have made these socks before in Kureyon sock yarn and I really enjoy them.  This time I made them bigger since I wanted them to bag a bit.  The leg is seventy stitches and the foot is sixty-five.  The pattern calls for sixty.  I had to do a little tweaking.  I am very happy with them.  I’ve worn them twice.  They wash beautifully.  As with other Noro, they feel better with every wash.  Now, I’m thinking about going back and getting some more.  They also had some other yarn that I think would be good for socks.

New Socks

June 8, 2013

I picked up the Sock Report last month. There are so very many great patterns that I had a hard time deciding on what to make. I am currently in Summer socks mode. I bought two different sock yarns at Sheep & Wool and I was eager to start.  I got Taiyo sock yarn and Panda silk.  Panda silk makes great socks and they’re completely machine washable and dryable.  I can throw them in the hamper and let Sweetums do what he will with them.  I know.  It’s a scary thought, but this is Sweetums after all.  Where was I?  So I made socks with the Taiyo and I love the lumpy texture and the slow slow color changes.  These socks were great fun to make and now, to wear.  Last Saturday was a knitters day out and I bought another skein at A Little Sheepish in Berlin, but that’s another story.  I have to take pictures first.

P1050459  What do you mean my socks don’t match?  They’re knit from the same skein.  But then, does it really matter?

Current progress on the Welcomes.

P1050450  What do you like?  The one on the right or the one on the left.
