Noro Gloves are Finished

June 9, 2009

060809 007I had to diddle with six of the fingers.  They were too wide at the top.  I undid several rows and took out two ro four stitches on the way back up.  They fit just the way I like them now.  Maybe, I’ll get back to the hats tomorrow.  But, I did get a sock club today, so maybe not.

Tapatia’s in Seaford

June 7, 2009

This place is always a good choice.  The food is good.  We always get full and sometimes have to take some home.  They always bring tortilla chips and a white and red sauce.  If you run out, they’ll bring more.  The chips are usually warm, thin and crisp.  The sauces must be freshly made as they are never exactly the same.   The others always get #114, #117 and #131.  I, on the other hand, have been going down the numbers.  I usually skip over the steak dishes and ones that are very spicy.  I haven’t hit a favorite yet.  There are so many things that I really like.  It took me about three years to go through all the numbers and I’ve never had a bad meal.  I’m on my second run through.

Since I all ready had my embroidery foot on my machine, I decided to do some embroidery before removing it.  Since I was using Laurel Burch fabric, I used a Laurel Burch cat.  I felt it wold be wasted on the top of the hat so I put it on some leftover fabric and made a pocket.   I finished the design stitches on the brims of both hats this afternoon and put names on the bias tape.  The brims are pinned to the caps.  Maybe I’ll finish them tomorrow.

Sunhats

June 5, 2009

I got some sewing done today.  I probably would have finished one of them, but I wanted to use a particular design on the brims that wasn’t on the machine I was using.  I was bummed.  Now I have to take the embroidery foot off the other machine which means I’ll have to move my sewing cabinet to find my screw driver that I dropped last week.  Well, there’s always tomorrow.

The Squirrel is Gone

June 4, 2009

I am so glad.  Those things can be so destructive.  At least, Zip took it down to the basement.  Gus would have gone ballistic.   He was acting crazy enough when Zip ran through.

I haven’t worked on the sunhats.  The weather has been too nice for me to stay inside.  It is supposed to be rainny for the next few days so Maybe I’ll get them done.

The Noro gloves are coming along.  I’m above the thumb gusset.  I amy have them finished by the end of the week.

Squirrel in the Basement

June 2, 2009

Zip likes to chase squirrels.  Today, he managed to one that was about half grown.   The back door was open.  In came Zip and ran down the stairs where he dropped it.  And lost it.  It’s still down there.  We left a window open and we are hoping it will leave on its own.  If not, we’ll have to get a trap.  There are so many things that it could get into.  I hate to think about it.032609 021

I took this picture last night.  I should have it finished this evening.  I’m working on the thumb.  I’ve started the thumb with blue, but I don’t know if I’ll keep it.

I’ve decided to make another sunhat for a friend.  Normally, she doesn’t wear hats, but her doctor said she needs to keep her head covered.  I bought this fabric with her in mind.  Unfortunately, the only picture of her dog was right in the middle.  Fortunately, I’ve got plenty of fabric.

Busy Week

May 30, 2009

The plan was to go to Reisterstown for a few days, visit and maybe ride up to Pennsylvania to shop.  But it didn’t happen.  Wednesday morning, I noticed the tag on Win’s car was about to expire.  I wound up driving it back that evening since it had to be inspected by Friday.  We took it to DMV Thursday morning.   It passed and we bought a two year sticker.  Win drove my car back Thursday afternoon.

Don't believe anything she says

Don't believe anything she says

This morning around 6AM, Olive and Zip decided to play king and queen of the clothes basket.  After they settled down, Gus started snoring.  I finally gave up and got up at 7Am.  I read for a while, then cooked sausage for breakfast.  When Win got up, I made pancakes.  He wanted to go to the Beach.  Luckily, he didn’t care if I went with him.  I think that if I had had a good night’s sleep, I would have liked to have gone also.

Well, Friday evening is finally here.  Things are back to normal.  We went out to eat with the neighbors, then Win went home.  Maybe, I’ll o again in a few weeks, and, hopefully, the sunhat will be finished.

On the knitting front, I’ve started another pair of gloves.  I’m using Noro sock yarn.  I’m up to the little finger all ready.  Gloves are instant gratification.  I’ll post a picture when I find my camera.

An Enjoyable Day

May 29, 2009

I made a fresh fruit cobbler this morning. A friend was coming over.  We spent a pleasant afternoon together, chatting, knitting and surfing the ‘net.   I started a pair of gloves to go with socks I made last year.  I’m using

I’m going to Reisterstown tomorrow.  Hopefully, I’ll only be there a couple of days.  It’s supposed to rain for the next five days and I want to sew the sunhat.  I made the bias tape.  I would have liked to have finished it before going.   Oh, well.

I originally worte this on Monday and for got to publish it.

Sunhat for Maddie

May 22, 2009

I learned something today.052009 003

When cutting bias strips, know where your coffee is.  I managed to get not one, but two strips in my coffee.

I had a light yellow piece of Laurel Burch fabric to cut out  which will be good for a sunhat.  Most of the LB fabric I have is too dark or Christmas.  I couldn’t find my bias tape so I make some more.  I could buy some, but I really like making my own.  It gives my things a personal touch.  I had to get some more interfacing.  All I have is very light weight and I like a light medium weight for these hats.  Luckily, the local Walmart still sells fabric so I didn’t have to go very far.  I caught the worker just as she was about to go on break.  She wasn’t too happy.  But there were a couple of times when I had to go through half the store looking for someone.  So, anyway, I bought ten yards.  You can never have enough.

I started this post two days ago, but the Internet went down.  At least word-press automatically saves your draft every few minutes.  Thanks, guys.  With all the absolutely beautiful weather we have been having, it’s really hard to blog.  I am only inside now because I am talking to a girlfriend on the phone.
