What is This?

Mallards and ?

Mallards and ?

The white guy was swimming around with the ducks late this afternoon.   They were at the far end of the creek so this is as good a picture as I could get.  I went through two bird books and the only thing that matched the beak was a Mute Swan.  I went through all the goose, duck, gull and shore birds since we are only 30 minutes from the ocean.  As you can see, it is about the same size as the Mallards.  See how much smaller it is than the Canada Goose?  That long yellow beak with the black at the base makes me wonder.  Is it a youngster?  I was hoping it would come down the creek forward me, but it headed out to the river.

I don’t think that is a duck. I was thinking a snow goose but the beak is wrong. It looks like a miniature trumpeter if there is such a thing. I am baffled. It does not look like a young bird. I double clicked to enlarge the photo. I am going to have weird dreams about that strange bird…probably…
